Craig Randall talks with me about his book Trust-Based Observations: Maximizing Teaching and Learning Growth. This is episode 392 of Teaching Learning Leading K12, an audio podcast.
Craig Randall has worked as an elementary and middle school counselor, including one intense year in the classroom with students with severe behavior issues. In addition he has served as an academic advisor at the college level. He has worked as a collegiate basketball coach. He has worked as a teacher at the elementary, middle, and high school levels as well as in college.
And, of course, Craig has worked in the job of his passion and calling: assistant principal and principal. Craig has done his work at schools both in the US and overseas. Now, as the author of the book and founder of the business with the same name: Trust-Based Observations, Craig’s goal is to transform the world of teacher observation and evaluation. He is dedicated to training and consulting school leaders on the use of Trust-Based Observations, empowering them to build supportive relationships with their teachers, relationships which foster risk-taking, which in turn, dramatically improve teaching and learning.
Craig received his Bachelor’s degree, yes in English, from the University of Washington, his Master’s in Education in Guidance and Counseling from Saint Martin’s University, and his principal certification from Western Washington University.
Currently, Craig lives in the rainy but beautiful Pacific Northwest with the best educator he knows, his wife and new teacher mentor, Michele, and their just graduated high-school twins, Acalia and Craigo.
Today Craig and I will be focused on his book... Trust-Based Observations: Maximizing Teaching and Learning Growth.

Kelsey Komorowski talks with me about her company KOMO: Learning for Life and it's focus to transform struggling students into confident learners. This is episode 390 of Teaching Learning Leading K12, an audio podcast.
Kelsey is the founder of Komo, an educational consulting firm on a mission to equip each student with the skills needed to succeed not just on the next test or essay but in life.
Kelsey earned over $100,000+ in scholarship offers and awards throughout her academic career, and has spent over 30,000 hours working with families to equip learners with the skills and mindsets needed to thrive inside and outside the classroom. She has lived on three continents, traveled to over 40 countries, and learned three languages throughout her career.
Komo has developed the most powerful tutoring system on the planet, transforming struggling students into confident learners who get high grades with low stress.
A core part of Kelsey’s mission is to democratize the type of learning support traditionally only accessible by the 1%.
Kelsey knows that every student can succeed in school, so long as they're shown how. She has 16 years of experience working closely with students to develop the skills, mindsets, and attributes they need to thrive not just in school but as lifelong learners and thoughtful, confident humans.
As a family coach, Kelsey loves empowering parents with the skills and knowledge to help their kids reach their potential, all while establishing positive household dynamics around school.
Before founding Komo, Kelsey worked with policymakers, school district leaders, and teachers at the Ministry of Education (Student Achievement Division).
When not working, Kelsey can be found hiking, hot yoga-ing, hanging with Rousseau (German Shepherd + constant companion), or planning and enjoying adventures around the world.
