July 27, 2018

Steve_Miletto_Talks_about_the_First_Day_of_Class.jpg

The first day of class is almost here. Are you ready?

Have you actually planned for that first day?

Oh, I know...lots of peers say that they have but they really have just gone through the motions.

I love the first day of class because you only get that one first day.

Here are my 5 Ideas about Getting Ready for the First Day of Class

1. Is your classroom looking good?

2. Have you created the procedures (How you operate your class.) that the kids need to know on the first day of class?

3. Have you created engaging instructional plans for the first day that make the kids want to come back?

4. Have you taken time to reach out to the kids and parents to say hi before school begins?

5. Have you planned to be you?

Have fun on that first day of class.

You only get one.

Thanks for listening.

Ge-Anne Bolhuis is the Instructional Technology Specialist and Media Specialist Liaison for a Georgia (US) school system. Today, we are talking about Future Ready Schools and Future Ready Librarians.

According to their website futureready.org, "Future Ready Schools® helps K-12 public, private, and charter school leaders plan and implement personalized, research-based digital learning strategies so all students can achieve their full potential."

Additionally, a Future Ready Librarian is expected to be an instructional leader to help schools become Future Ready.

Ge-Anne shares with us her thoughts about the need to have the instructional talents of the librarians used to help teachers implement better practices in the classroom. She shares that building administrators really have to have a better understanding of the role that librarians can play in keeping the school on track.

You'll hear us discuss the expectations of a Future Ready Librarian as well as some of the tools that the librarians can use to help drive the school to new levels of success.

We also talk about her favorite app - Google Keep and other tools that the Future Ready Librarian can share with the faculty of schools and students.

Listen for us to talk about EdCamps and CoffeeEDU meetups, as well.

Lots to learn about today.

Ge-Anne is inspiring!

Thanks for listening.

Enjoy!

Jesse Cole is the author of Find Your Yellow Tux: How to Be Successful by Standing Out and the host of the amazing podcast Business Done Differently. He is also the owner of Fans' First Entertainment and the Savannah Bananas - a college summer baseball league team that has sold out all of its games in its first two years. By the way, this is evidence of his philosophy of doing things differently.

Jesse believes that you have to know what your mission is. He says you have to keep it clear, simple, and make it repeatable.

The name of his company - Fan's First - makes it clear that the focus of everyone in his organization is "to take care of people."

Jesse notes that it is important to get the attention of your customers or constituents and then tell them what you are about...tell them your story...and keep telling them.

Jesse Cole thinks in terms of how things could be. As he says, "I challenge you to think beyond yourself."

Also, listen for us to talk about his heroes Walt Disney, Bill Veeck, and PT Barnum, his focus on the Yellow Tux, and so much more.

It was a blast to talk with Jesse! I enjoyed thinking about how I could follow his philosophy of doing things differently in my world and I am sure you will do the same.

Thanks for listening!

Enjoy!
